What this department does

This teletypewriter line gives people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech impairment a way to reach CRA individual services. It covers the same kinds of personal tax questions as the voice individual tax line, using TTY instead of a spoken call.

This toll-free line assists with:

  • People who are deaf
  • People who are hard of hearing
  • People with speech impairments
  • TTY/TDD device users

Hours of operation

Monday to Friday during regular individual-tax hours, except holidays. You need a TTY/TDD device or an equivalent relay service.

Hours can change on holidays and during peak filing periods.

Why to call this department

  • You use a TTY/TDD device and need personal income tax, refund, or My Account help.
  • A voice line is not accessible for you and you need an individual tax agent.
  • You received CRA correspondence and want to follow up through TTY.

Why you may have received a call from this number

  • CRA may return a TTY contact at this number after you reached the accessibility line.
  • A follow-up about a personal tax file can be sent by TTY if that is how you asked to communicate.
  • A voice caller who claims this TTY number and then demands payment is not using the service as published.

Have this ready before you call

  • A working TTY/TDD device or approved relay method
  • Social Insurance Number and date of birth
  • The tax document or letter you need to discuss

Other things to know

  • Business TTY users can use the same number and ask for business enquiries.
  • If you do not use TTY, call the regular individual tax voice line instead.
